My Life‘s Glorious Moments

IBM's Academic Initiative Team's Innovation is TGMC – The Great Mind Challenge – a Nation- wide software development contest for Computer science students. Usually, there will be participants from Engineering, Technology and MCA streams. This time, I thought why we can't make a difference. Emerging from Arts and Science Background along with B.Ed., I stepped into TGMC 2009 by registering on September 14, 2009. Along with 2 other members, I started the pioneering work of developing my project to be a strong competitor for students from various streams.

I was at stage zero in Java Technology, Information Management and Rational Technologies of IBM. I started learning for our project and later found myself deeply associated into the IT industry in name of this contest. It was a pleasant and striving experience on my side to balance both my academics and TGMC. Wonderful period it is! With the assistance of the software set provided by IBM, I made progress in my project little by little.

Our SRS was successfully submitted on October 23, 2009. With confidence at neck level, I continued the implementation of our project. I completed the project and submitted it on January 11, 2010. There were 2 rounds – First level and Final Level (Face to Face interview). The first phase concentrated on the quality of SRS, the technologies and tools used, the originality of code and UML design. The final phase concentrated on the functionalities, user interface modules and the output along with the platform used to develop the project. The first round results were published on March 11, 2010. I was on cloud nine when my team's name was listed in the Top 281 teams selected from 2200 teams all over India. The Union Territory of Pondicherry had 5 teams from 3 colleges. Ours was the only team from our college. It was on record for my college, Pope John Paul II College of Education, that, for the ever first time, TGMC project was submitted and then being selected in the first level.

With dreams of success, I was waiting for the Face to Face interview. It was on March 25, 2010 – a thrilling Thursday of my life. I, with my Project mentor and team members, reached the College of Engineering, Guindy for the Finals. There, we demonstrated our project in front of IBM Faculty, Mr. Saravanan. He expressed his surprise and contentment towards our commitment and involvement in the project at UG level that too from Arts and Science stream. I am really feeling excited for being a part of TGMC 2009. This is the highest achievement in my life till date.

I am very crazy about the software industry in the present days due to my adventurous experience in TGMC.
